I am naturally a major homebody, so the idea of traveling usually seems like too much effort. It is so much easier (and cheaper!) to grab a bag of white cheddar popcorn, a movie from Redbox, and a glass of wine! While enjoying a comfortable night at home after a busy work week, it suddenly occurred to us that we were no longer saving for a downpayment and had the flexibility to take a day or two from work. We were in this amazing season of freedom..and completely wasting it!
This past weekend, Jake and I had the chance to sneak away for an amazing long weekend trip to Seattle to celebrate his birthday. Not exactly seasoned-travellers, we researched the top spots and asked family and friends for referrals. We were able to pack our three night stay full of awesome food, tourist attractions, wineries, and even a baseball game (it was no accident we chose a weekend the Rangers were in town to play the Mariners).
One of our favorite parts of our trip was a gourmet food tour that included a tasting at seven restaurants, as well as a few drink pairings. I don’t know about you, but we love to eat when we travel! I love finding a fantastic restaurant unique to the place we are travelling, and Seattle definitely has plenty to offer. With only a limited number of dinners, the food tour was a great way to taste several of the city’s best dishes in one meal. We enjoyed it so much that we went back to our hotel and booked a tour for the next morning before our flight home. We explored Pike Place, tasted some more amazing food, and Jake even got to toss a fish back and forth with the guys from Pike Place Fish Market!
Traveling with Jake is the best, he is the ultimate tourist! He wants to see and do everything, and his excitement is contagious. I’m so grateful for the opportunity we have to create a strong foundation of shared experiences and adventures together! There is so much pressure to have children immediately after getting married, and while we are definitely planning on expanding our family, I am so enjoying this season where it is just the two of us!
